Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Saturday called on the global Muslim community to stand in solidarity with the people of Lebanon as its capital city Beirut was pounded by Israeli airstrikes amid the cross-border hostilities between the two countries.
Khamenei appealed to Muslims around the world to confront a ‘usurping, oppressive, and wicked regime’ Israel with ‘whatever means they have’ as the possibility of a full-blown war between Israel and Lebanon looms large following Lebanese terrorist outfit Hezbollah’s leader Hassan Nasrallah’s killing in Israeli airstrikes on Friday.
“It is incumbent upon all Muslims to stand by the people of Lebanon and the proud Hezbollah with whatever means they have and assist them in confronting the usurping, oppressive and wicked regime”, Khamenei was quoted as saying by news agency Reuters in a reaction to the Israeli offensive on Beirut on Friday.
“Let the Zionist criminals know that they are far too insignificant to cause any major damage to the strong structure of Hezbollah in Lebanon”, he added.
“The terrorist gang ruling Zionist regime hasn’t learned from its 1yr criminal war in Gaza doesn’t understand the massacre of women, children, & civilians cannot hurt strong structure of Resistance or bring it to its knees”, Khamenei said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
Khamenei further asked “All the Resistance forces in the region” to stand with and support Hezbollah.
After the Israeli military on Saturday claimed that they had eliminated Hezbollah leader Nasrallah in Beirut airstrikes, Khamenei was moved to a secure location with increased security measures as reported by Al Arabiya News, citing sources.
Israel’s military said on Saturday it had “eliminated” Nasrallah after bombing Hezbollah’s central command in the Lebanese capital, where the 64-year-old cleric was reportedly holed up in a bunker. The militant group has not commented on his fate yet.
Israeli airstrikes hit Beirut’s southern suburbs, with the Israeli military confirming that multiple buildings were struck in Dahiyeh, a known Hezbollah stronghold. Four buildings were reportedly destroyed in the strikes, which rocked the city with powerful blasts, leaving several large craters and damaging surrounding structures.
